ArteScienza 2024 – A Celebration of Sound, Space, and Innovation

This summer, I had the pleasure of participating in the 2024 edition of ArteScienza, one of Italy’s most significant festivals dedicated to contemporary music, sound technology, and interdisciplinary research. Organized by the CRM – Centro Ricerche Musicali in Rome, the festival featured a rich program of concerts, installations, masterclasses, and site-specific performances with artists, composers, and researchers from all over the world.

I took part in the festival as a musical assistant, supporting the technical and artistic realization of a wide variety of events, including acousmatic concerts, holographic installations, and live performances. It was an incredible opportunity to work closely with leading figures in contemporary music, such as Michelangelo Lupone, Laura Bianchini, Silvia Lanzalone, and many other international artists engaged in advanced spatial sound projects.

One of the most inspiring experiences was contributing to the concerts held at the Goethe-Institut in Rome, the festival’s main venue, where major works such as Holos#1 — an immersive holo-acoustic and visual installation by Massimiliano Mascaro — and Teatro dell’Ascolto — a seven-part listening theater experience — were presented. These projects immersed the audience in tridimensional sonic landscapes using advanced spatialization systems developed by CRM.

My work involved assisting with the setup and operation of these installations and supporting the technical execution of performances, including tributes to influential composers Luigi Nono and Domenico Guaccero. Their legacy was honored through a series of both historical pieces and new commissions that highlighted their lasting impact on socially engaged music.

Beyond the technical aspects, I had the chance to connect with fellow emerging composers and sound artists, sharing insights and approaches to contemporary music production. The interdisciplinary nature of ArteScienza — blending music, science, theater, video art, and sonic architecture — made each day a meaningful learning experience.

Being part of ArteScienza was not only an honor but also a responsibility: contributing to such a visionary project means embracing art as a form of knowledge, capable of generating meaning, emotion, and transformation.

I would like to sincerely thank the entire CRM team for the trust and for welcoming me into such a vibrant and inspiring environment. This experience marks an important milestone in my artistic and professional journey.
